Scarborough teens involved in the high school ECOS club will be selling ‘limited edition’ reusable bags as an earth-friendly fundraiser . ECOS, which stands for the Environmental Club of Scarborough, is an after school club that strives to heighten the local community’s awareness of environmental issues and encourage more eco-friendly lifestyles.
The students held a design contest where they accepted submissions from fellow students. The bags have been printed with the winning design (–signed by “Brie” the artist).
Personalizing a green school fundraiser is a great way to engage students in the fundraising activity and make the product easier to sell. The goal of the fundraiser is to raise awareness about the use of reusable bags, and to raise money for the school’s environmental club. The bags are high quality, reusable hemp bags made from a unique blend of organic hemp and recycled PET. The bags are a high quality cloth which looks and feels like linen. (…)
The students chose this bag specifically after meeting with ‘the bag lady’ and looking at all of their options. This bag was chosen not only because it’s hip & fashionable, but also because it’s extremely durable and produced in factories with the highest environmental & social responsibility standards. They resemble cotton canvas, only with a more refined feels and better washability (they can be hand or machine washed with minimal shrinking and wrinkles when compared to cotton).
The bags will sell for $8 each. They will be available to club members, faculty and if they have any left they will be sold to parents at sporting events.
ECOS is open to students at Scarborough High School in Scarborough, Maine. They meet once a week after school. In addition to weekly meetings, ECOS members participate in beach clean ups, trips and outings. They also promote recycling efforts at school and host an annual ‘Eco-week’.
