Bulletin Bag Staff Reviews: Canvas Grocery Bags

Full_Sized_Recyc_4f79b6544c710Every week we pick two of our reusable bags and have our staff members put them through the wringer. We’ll comment on the outcomes here (and encourage our clients to do the same!). This week, we’ve chosen two great canvas grocery bags: Full Sized Recycled Cotton Market Bag and Full Size Organic Market Bag. In addition, these two bags are on sale until the end of the month!

We love canvas shopping bags because they are strong, durable, and natural. Canvas reusable bags can be machine washed with regular laundry in cold water. Best of all, our wholesale canvas bags provide the ideal ‘canvas’ for logo printing. Custom shopping bags like these also have high perceived value, making them a great vehicle for your branding.

Bulletin Bag Staff Reviews: July 20

DEBNW4733-purple_560x560Every week we pick two of our reusable bags and have our staff members put them through the wringer. We’ll comment on the outcomes here (and encourage our clients to do the same!). This week, we’ve chosen our Folding Snap Nonwoven Tote and Large Nonwoven Folding Reusable Bag.

These two bags are popular due to their budget-conscious price point and portability. The Folding Snap Nonwoven Tote is a bit smaller (16″w x 14″h x 3-1/2″d) than the Large Nonwoven Folding Reusable Bag (15″w x 18-3/4″h x 7-1/2″d), but that’s where the differences end.

Bulletin Bag Staff Reviews: July 12

thunder_1Every week we pick two of our reusable bags and have our staff members put them through the wringer. We’ll comment on the outcomes here (and encourage our clients to do the same!). This week, we’ve chosen our best-selling Little Thunder Grocery Tote and Big Thunder Grocery Tote .

We love the “Thunder Totes.” They are by and large our most popular bags due to the quality of the material, durable design and budget-conscious price point. The Little Thunder Grocery Tote , (12”w x 13”h x 8”d), is smaller than the Big Thunder (13”w x 15”h x 10”d), but that’s where the differences end.

The Little Thunder and Big Thunder are made from heavy-duty 100 GSM non-woven polypropylene. Most non-woven polypropylene reusable grocery bags will weigh between 70 and 100 GSM (the larger the number, the higher the density and durability). It’s also worth noting that not all nonwoven polypropylene is the same. While GSM is a measure of density, it’s not a measure of the quality of the polypropylene itself. The Big Thunder and Little Thunder totes use the highest quality, most consistent polypropylene we’ve seen.

Need help washing something out of your reusable bag?

A few weeks ago, we received an email from someone who was directed to our site by Googling “reusable bag cleaning tips” (a great bit of reading, by the way!). She was desperate to get honey out of a nonwoven polypropylene bag. She told us what she had tried, but despite her best efforts, the bag was still sticky.

We put our heads together and suggested that she try soaking the bag in a sink filled with warm, soapy water, and then gently scrubbing at it with a sponge or dish brush. We asked her to check in and let us know if it worked, not really expecting to hear anything.

The other day, we received this message:

You superstar!! It worked! I soaked the bag in a mild non-biological laundry detergent solution for 30 mins and then scrubbed it with a brush and dried it outdoors. Bag is like new and no residue of honey. Thank you so much!!

Which reminds us…we’re kind of experts in this! So, do you have a sticky, stubborn mess in the bottom of a reusable bag? Put us to the test! Let us know what the bag is made of and what the mess is (if you know), as well as what you’ve tried. We’ll post suggestions below.

Bulletin Bag Reusable Grocery Bags Routinely Tested for Lead Safety

bulletinbagthunderRecently, some high-profile chains reported the existence of varying levels of lead in some of their reusable grocery bags, and some pulled their reusable shopping bags off the shelves because high levels of lead were detected in the ink used to imprint the bags or the reusable bags themselves. At about the same time, Senator Charles Schumer sent a letter (see below) to the Food and Drug Administration, urging the agency to investigate the issue.

Bulletin Bag [.com] works hard to earn our clients’ trust. Our ability to deliver high-quality reusable bags to you is enabled in part by the long-standing relationships we have with our factories. These factories monitor production and regularly test our bags to ensure compliance with the CPSC and CPSIA regarding lead levels.  Despite what you might have heard over the last few days, not all reusable bags contain lead, and you can rest assured that the reusable bags you purchase from Bulletin Bag [.com] will comply with all CPSC and CPSIA guidelines for safety.

According to a recent study by Nexus Collections, reusable bags are the most effective way to promote your brand at a conference or event. Twenty-three percent of respondents selected conference bags as the promotional item that created the biggest exposure.

bag presser005Longevity may have a lot to do with it: by investing in reusable bags as tradeshow giveaways, you gain loads of exposure at the event—not to mention the residual effect by the bags’ reuse after the conference is over. Your logo or message on a custom printed reusable bag is akin to a walking billboard, providing impressions every time it’s used.

Maine Is Going Reusable!

n173685420364_7373On Monday, the Maine Merchants Association announced the “Got Your Bags, Maine?” initiative to encourage increased reusable bag use. Following a resolution passed by the Legislature last Spring, Maine Merchants Association, Maine Grocers Association the state Chamber of Commerce, Natural Resources Council of Maine and a growing number of Maine retailers and grocers have joined forces after being brought together over the summer by the Maine State Planning Office. The public education and outreach effort is aimed at encouraging Mainers to increase the usage of reusable bags for shopping and decrease the use of single use paper and plastic bags.

“The kick off of this campaign is a monumental achievement and we are thrilled to see the state of Maine taking leadership on this issue….” says Suzette Bergeron, owner of Bulletin Bag [.com] based in southern Maine.  We first got involved in Maine’s campaign against wasteful paper and plastic when former Representative Ted Koffman put forth a bill to put a fee on paper and plastic in 2007.
